  1923

  The beginning

  The origin of VASAD dates back to the year 1923 and has a rich history of experience and craftsmanship. The company was founded by three brothers Jan, Theo and Herman van der Sandt (photo three brothers) and was located in Doetinchem ‘’the oldest and most solid address’’ according to Jan van der Sandt (photo parade car). VASAD has traditionally produced leather bags and leather bicycle saddles in the Netherlands. These went all over the world, even in Ethiopia and Dubai you could find the VASAD saddles with the springs, and the billboards hung up to the station in Jakarta.

  Helsinki

• 1960

  The year that the moped started to emerge resulted in a declining turnover for saddles and accessories. Arnoud van der Sandt, the son of Jan van der Sandt entered the company and his interest was more focused on luxury leather goods and also started to buy in Italy and East Germany.
• 

  1973

  Split

  Arnoud decided with several nephews and nieces in and around the company to buy the leather goods department from VASAD and started his company SL bv. The departments of luxury leather goods and saddles were separated. He still worked from the VASAD complex where he rented the three front halls.
• 1980

  In 1980 Arnoud moved with SL bv to a new building on the Mercuriusstraat.
• 2003

  And present

  The third generation Van der Sandt, son Peter, now runs SL Lederwaren b.v. (SL BAGS) and is located in Zutphen. Here VASAD has been brought back as a label within SL Lederwaren B.V. The craftsmanship through which VASAD has grown has remained, the bags have moved with the times. VASAD is now the label for modern, functional bags and is contemporary, robust and sturdy. You will find within VASAD a beautiful quality collection of unisex bags that you want to be seen with.
